ACC/SEC ALUMNI CLUBS ANNOUNCE '08 GOLF TOURNAMENT
Event to Benefit CASA, Help Child Abuse Victims in Nashville
Nashville – Alumni club presidents of the Nashville area ACC and SEC chapters have designated a benefactor for the 2008 ACC vs. SEC Alumni Golf Tournament. Proceeds from the fundraising event will benefit CASA, Inc., an organization dedicated to providing volunteer advocates for children who have come to the attention of the court primarily due to abuse and neglect.
The alumni club presidents interviewed three worthy candidates during an evening meeting February 19, 2008. A majority vote led to the decision. Schools represented were Alabama, Auburn, Boston College, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisiana State, Mississippi, Mississippi State, North Carolina State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
Tournament Director and President of the Nashville Area Clemson Club, Evan Vutsinas said CASA’s work with children made an impression on the group.
“Our members believe that by helping children, we help our society. All children deserve a chance to grow up to be happy, productive adults,” he said.
The golf tournament is set for Monday, Oct. 13, 2008 at the Hermitage Golf Course.
Last year’s event was conceived, planned and hosted with only eight weeks of preparation time, and still raised more than $13,000 for a local non-profit organization.
Organizers are hoping to significantly improve on the dollars raised in an effort to help CASA, Inc. play an even bigger role in the lives of abused, neglected children in Davidson County.
CASA Board President Andrew Williams expressed enthusiasm about this new partnership.
“CASA is honored and excited to have been chosen as the recipient of proceeds from this growing event. We congratulate the ACC and SEC alumni club presidents on their success to date, and look forward to working with them to benefit our community,” he said.
